The City of Everett's Economic Development Department hired Thomas/Lane & Associates to study the feasibility and impacts of scheduled commercial air service at Snohomish County's airport, Paine Field.
The City conducted the study in response to the following:
- In 2005, the Everett Vision 2025 Team identified six priorities, one of which included pursuit of commercial air service into Paine Field. This recommendation was one of five listed as an economic development objective in the Vision 2025 Plan to improve infastructure, recruit preferred business and deliver effective workforce training.
- A recommendation resulted from the City's Council's 2007 retreat to develop and approve a city strategy for commercial air service at Paine Field.
The study assesses the soundness of projections and estimates that have been made of scheduled air service that can be attracted to Paine Field. In addition, the study included estimating the resulting impacts, benefits and costs associated with scheduled commercial air service.
Paine Field is located in unincorporated Snohomish County between Everett and Mukilteo and has three runways. It is home to The Boeing Co., Goodrich and Aviation Technical Services as well as other aerospace companies representing upwards of 40,000 jobs and $2.5 billion in annual payroll.
