Everett Thinks Big
The City of Everett is committed to creating and nurturing great thinking—and nowhere is this more apparent than in Everett education. Whether it’s our creative approach to the K–12 curriculum or our consortium of university branch campuses or community colleges in Washington State, big thinking isn’t just part of our policy—it’s part of our infrastructure. And it’s the foundation for our most valuable capital: future knowledge workers learning today how to create the next generation of innovation.
The Skinny on our Big Thinking
The city’s 18,500 K–12 students are served by 43 primary and secondary schools in the Everett and Mukilteo School Districts. Local two-year Everett education institutions, including Everett Community College, Cascadia Community College, Edmonds Community College and ITT Technical Institute provide high-quality transitional education. University Center at Everett Community College also offers upper-level classes from several state universities.
University of Washington Bothell
Located less than 10 miles south of the City of Everett, UW Bothell is situated on the edge of Washington State’s most successful wetlands restoration site, providing a wide range of educational and research opportunities for all. This campus serves more than 1,800 students with undergraduate and graduate programs across a wide variety of disciplines, including business, education, nursing and more. UW Bothell’s small classes, devoted faculty and advanced facilities have attracted students from more than 20 countries—and contribute hundreds of qualified graduates to the local workforce every year.
University of Washington North
In 2007 the legislature directed the Washington State Office of Financial Management (OFM) and the University of Washington to recommend sites and develop an academic plan for a new UW campus in North Puget Sound. Two of the four sites that have been short listed are in Everett. Everett’s preferred site and the number 1 recommended site is in the Everett Station Area. As the largest city in the 3-county region to be served by the new campus, Everett’s urban setting offers an extraordinary array of recreational, cultural, housing, experiential learning and convenience opportunities for UW North students, faculty and employees. Legislation to authorize expansion of higher education in Snohomish County was introduced in the 2009 Session of the Washington State Legislature.
